BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
Calories burned at rest.
Definition
BMR is the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain essential bodily functions such as breathing, circulation, and cell production. It is influenced by age, gender, weight, and height.
Example
A 30-year-old woman weighing 60kg and 165cm tall may have a BMR of 1400 calories/day.
Calculation
BMR=10 × weight(kg)+6.25 × height(cm)−5 × age(yrs)−161(for women)
Example: A 30-year-old woman weighing 60kg and 165cm tall:
BMR = (10 × 60) + (6.25 × 165) − (5 × 30) − 161
BMR ≈ 1400 calories/day
BMR = (10 × 60) + (6.25 × 165) − (5 × 30) − 161
BMR ≈ 1400 calories/day
